5 recent news and rumors about Roman Reigns you can't miss - Major swerve planned, old rivalry to renew? - December 30, 2021

Welcome to another edition of the five recent news and rumors about Roman Reigns that you absolutely cannot miss. The Tribal Chief has recently been involved in a very interesting angle with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. While he has been absent from a few live events, he is expected to appear at Day 1 for his match against Lesnar.

We will take a look at what WWE has planned for the match and if we could see a big swerve by the end of Day 1. Apart from that, we will also look at how Reigns took a massive shot at an AEW star, his future rival, and much more.

So without any further ado, let us dive in and take a look at some big rumors and news related to Roman Reigns:

#5 Possible plan for Roman Reigns' match at Day 1

As per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE has planned a big finish for Reigns' match against Lesnar at the Day 1 pay-per-view. He also stated that Paul Heyman would likely play a big role in the match.

Roman Reigns fired his 'Wise Man' a few weeks back. Last week on SmackDown, Heyman said he was 'done' for now. However, it could be possible that he and The Tribal Chief will cost Brock Lesnar the match yet again.

“Obviously, he’s gonna have something to do with the storyline on Saturday because I was essentially told that it was very very important for WrestleMania that Roman Reigns does not miss this show, that Lesnar does not miss this show, and that Heyman does not miss this show. His name was mentioned to me in that context so obviously, there’s something big going on there,” said Dave Meltzer.

With rumors suggesting that Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar will happen at WrestleMania this year, the chances are high that The Tribal Chief will retain the Universal Championship.

#4 Drew McIntyre has an interesting take on Roman Reigns' match at Day 1

Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre said he doesn't care who wins at Day 1, be it Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar. There has been speculation that he could be added to the feud between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.

Speaking on WWE's The Bump, McIntyre talked about his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 and how it elevated him as a performer. He said that he knows what both men are capable of and will be rooting for them.

On the topic of Roman Reigns, McIntyre said that the tables have turned, and he will keenly watch what The Tribal Chief can do at Day 1:

"I honestly don’t care who wins. I’ve been in the ring with both...I know what they’re capable of. The match with Brock, where I won my first WWE Championship, is the biggest moment of my career. Winning against Brock Lesnar put me on a different level. It cemented me as a superstar that could be on top of the mountain,'' said McIntyre.

Reports have suggested that McIntyre will face the winner of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns next.

#3 Roman Reigns' new t-shirt takes a shot at CM Punk

Roman Reigns' new t-shirt reads 'needle mover.' It takes a dig at top superstars who claim to be significant rating movers. However, this time the barb was pointed at former WWE Champion and current AEW star CM Punk.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave details about the new merchandise, saying that it materialized due to Reigns' saying CM Punk wasn't a needle mover.

"The line actually comes from the interview where Reigns claimed C.M. Punk wasn’t a needle mover. Obviously, at least short-term, Punk was. Long-term is more of a question but nobody moved numbers more short-term this year than Punk. But his context was that in WWE, Punk didn’t move the needle like Cena or The Rock, and that is true," Meltzer said.

Speaking about Reign's ability to move the needle, Meltzer noted that multiple factors have helped him uplift SmackDown's ratings. One of them is that the show takes place on a Friday, and it is much easier to draw an audience ahead of the weekend.

#2 Bill Apter on Seth Rollins being Roman Reigns' future opponent

Legendary journalist Bill Apter noted that Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns could renew their rivalry, given their history. Speaking on SportsKeeda's Smack Talk, Apter discussed what the future could hold for Roman Reigns.

Bill Apter sees great potential in a storyline featuring Reigns and Rollins as they have been both teammates and in the past. However, it may not happen anytime soon because they are both heels and on different brands.

''The other thing is, let's not forget the history between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Although Rollins is a 'semi-final guy,' you still have that Shield friendship that could turn into a very strong rivalry once again if they do a historical thing," revealed Bill Apter.

Seth Rollins is currently feuding with Big E over the WWE Championship, whereas Roman Reigns is the reigning Universal Champion on SmackDown. It is only a matter of time and opportunity until these two men clash again.

#1 Drew McIntyre is aiming for Roman Reigns' Universal title

Roman Reigns' long-time rival Drew McIntyre recently spoke to SportsKeeda about what the future could hold for him. He discussed Roman Reigns and said that his goal is to take the Universal Championship from The Tribal Chief.

“Specific goals? I mean, I’ve gotta mention the Universal Title. That’s an obvious one. That’s an inevitable goal. I ain’t trying to rush there either. I’m just trying to keep on the path I’m on, growing that momentum. I can hear the crowds getting louder every week, like they were building up to WrestleMania in 2020, which was cool,'' said McIntyre

As discussed earlier, McIntyre said he would be closely watching the match between Lesnar and Reigns at Day 1. He would like to renew his old rivalry with Roman Reigns and finally get the big win he's been looking for.

For now, The Scottish Warrior will be taking on Madcap Moss at Day 1. There is speculation that WWE could add him to a potential triple threat match at WrestleMania alongside Lesnar and Reigns.
