That wrestler happens to be one of McIntyre's top WWE rivals, current Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The two superstars most recently squared off in the main event of Survivor Series 2020, with Reigns scoring the pinfall victory.

During an interview with Sky Sports (h/t WrestlingNews.co) McIntyre offered strong praise for The Tribal Chief, who's been pushed as the company's top star for over a year now.

"Yeah, he’s on fire," McIntyre said. There’s nobody close to him in the entire wrestling industry."

McIntyre also stated that a rematch with Reigns is "inevitable", although he isn't keen on it just yet. McIntyre explained that he would like to build up some more "momentum" for himself before facing the Universal Champion.

Back in May, McIntyre admitted that he had "unfinished business" with Reigns. But it could be a while until the two superstars face off again, as Reigns is slated to face WWE Champion Big E in a champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series on Nov. 21.

Roman Reigns & Paul Heyman

As for McIntyre, he will try to lead Team SmackDown to a victory over Team Raw in the traditional men's 5-on-5 elimination tag match. Perhaps he could feud with Reigns leading up to WrestleMania season; the reported plan is for The Tribal Chief to once again go up against Brock Lesnar at the Show of Shows on the Apr. 2-3 weekend in Arlington, Texas.

WWE's Resilience Has Paid Off

It took WWE a long time, and a drastic character change at that. But finally, Reigns has gotten over as the face of the copmany. All it took was a simple heel turn and a pairing with Paul Heyman for Reigns to maximize his potential as a giant main event draw. Everything about his heel turn has worked up to this point, and WWE rightfully seems invested on making him their top star over the long run.
