At Backlash 2017, Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton to become WWE Champion. Despite failing as champion and having a lackluster reign, Jinder Mahal held the title for 170 days.
Believe it or not, there are several high-caliber wrestlers, even legends, who could never have as long a reign as Jinder Mahal. In fact, some multi-time WWE Champions weren't able to hold the title for 170 days when combining all of their reigns. Frankly, it doesn't make sense that Mahal has held the title for more days than some of the greatest wrestlers of all time, but we all know that WWE's booking is sometimes incomprehensible. Without further ado, here are 10 WWE Champions who held the title for fewer days than Jinder Mahal.
10 Daniel Bryan
A fan favorite and one of the greatest performers of all time, Daniel Bryan, wasn't able to have a WWE Title reign as long as Jinder Mahal's. Bryan's longest reign lasted 145 days, starting when he defeated AJ Styles on the November 13, 2018, episode of SmackDown, and ending when he dropped the title to Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35.
Certainly, Bryan was always an underdog. He wasn't that kind of wrestler who would establish tremendous dominance in WWE, but still, he deserved so much more.
9 The Big Show
Throughout his entire career, The Big Show has never been able to hold any title for 170 days, let alone a World Title. This is quite surprising considering Big Show was always a dominant wrestler, like any good giant.
The Big Show's last World Title reign lasted 72 days, between October 2012 and January 2013. Big Show lost the Championship in a Last Man Standing match against Alberto Del Rio on SmackDown. But when it comes to the WWE Championship, Big Show's longest reign happened between 1999 and 2000 when he held the gold for 50 days. Show won the title at Survivor Series '99 and then dropped the gold on the first Raw of 2000. Big Show's second reign with the WWE Title was even shorter, lasting 28 days from Survivor Series 2002 to Armageddon '02.
8 Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy was not only successful as a tag team wrestler, but he was also able to shine as a singles star. He held three World Titles in WWE, which combined add up to just 71 days.
Certainly, The Charismatic Enigma has never been a main eventer, but he has gathered much more merits than Jinder Mahal and, if we talk about merits, Jeff Hardy deserved a longer reign than Mahal. But fans know quite well that in WWE, it's not always the one who deserves it or the one the fans want who wins the gold, but the one Vince McMahon wants. Hardy had two short reigns with the World Heavyweight Title, and his sole WWE Title reign lasted 42 days.
7 Dean Ambrose
Jon Moxley was AEW World Champion for 277 days, proving his talent and star power. But in WWE, he couldn't even hold a World Title for more days than Jinder Mahal, can you believe it?
At Money In The Bank 2016, Dean Ambrose won his first and only WWE World Heavyweight Title after cashing in his MITB contract on former Shield teammate Seth Rollins. 84 days later at Backlash, Ambrose dropped the title to AJ Styles.
6 Kurt Angle
If someone told you that Jinder Mahal held a WWE World Title for more days than Kurt Angle you might think they were crazy, but it is actually a fact. Kurt Angle's longest World Title reign in WWE was his first, which lasted 126 days.
It is hard to believe that one of the best wrestlers of all time, truly gifted with wrestling skills, held the WWE Title for fewer days than Jinder Mahal. Sometimes, life is really weird, don't you think?
5 Eddie Guerrero
Eddie Guerrero was extremely charismatic, and that’s why he stole the fans' hearts. His persona was unforgettable and his in-ring work was top-notch. Despite being an all-time great, Eddie Guerrero only won one WWE World Title, which lasted 133 days, and he deserved better.
Frankly, that title reign wasn’t that great, but the match against Brock Lesnar at No Way Out 2004 and the bout against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 20 were masterpieces. Eddie Guerrero will always live in our memories, unlike Jinder Mahal.
4 Chris Jericho
This list of WWE Champions who held the title for fewer days than Jinder Mahal is getting more and more impressive. Incredibly, Chris Jericho never held the WWE Title for 170 days, and when it comes to World Titles, his longest reign lasted 98 days.
That reign began at Vengeance 2001 when Jericho defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin and at WrestleMania 18 Triple H put an end to it. Chris Jericho has been a wrestler for the ages, but for some reason, he held the WWE Championship for fewer days than Jinder Mahal.
3 Ric Flair
Certainly, Ric Flair worked a long time for NWA and WCW, but in his time in WWE, he managed to win the WWE Championship twice. Those two reigns combined add up to 118 days, so believe it or not, the legendary Ric Flair held the WWE Championship for fewer days than Jinder Mahal.
Ric Flair should have had a longer title reign, but Randy Savage and Bret Hart did not let him.
2 The Undertaker
Among the seven World Title reigns of The Undertaker's career, none lasted as long as Jinder Mahal's 170-day reign. The Deadman's longest World Title reign lasted 140 days, beginning when he defeated CM Punk at Hell In A Cell 2009 and ending when Chris Jericho won the Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber 2010.
The Undertaker is arguably the most iconic character in the history of sports entertainment, but Jinder Mahal had a longer Title reign than him. When it comes to the WWE Title, The Phenom's longest reign came after defeating Sycho Sid at WrestleMania 13. That reign lasted 133 days. His shortest WWE Title reign happened in November 1991 after defeating Hulk Hogan at Survivor Series. Undertaker would lose the title back to Hogan just six days later at the This Tuesday In Texas pay-per-view.
1 The Rock
Another legendary wrestler who held a World Title for fewer days than Jinder Mahal is The Rock, yes, you read that right. The Most Electrifying Man in all of Entertainment has won 10 World Titles, but none have lasted 170 days.
The Rock's longest World Title reign lasted 119 days. He won the gold at King Of The Ring 2000 and dropped it to Kurt Angle at No Mercy 2000. Jinder Mahal is not a bad wrestler, but he simply didn't deserve to have a longer title reign than all of these legends.
